Pierce Laveran prepares for EA Day behind the camera

While the football team gets a lot of credit for its hard work throughout the season, one student often goes unnoticed.

Fourth Former Pierce Laveran spends his time after school at football practice. But Laveran is not in pads like the rest of the team. Instead, he spends his time behind the camera, capturing the pivotal moments throughout practice to make a video for the team’s upcoming game.

“I’ve been filming the football team every day to make an episode every week. So far, I’ve made six episodes,” Laveran said.

Laveran originally picked up the camera as a hobby. However, it has turned into much more than that.

“This year, I’ve improved drastically in the whole filmmaking process. The biggest step for me was just getting comfortable behind the camera.”

“This year, I’ve improved drastically in the whole filmmaking process. The biggest step for me was just getting comfortable behind the camera,” Laveran said. “From there, I use Adobe and take about three hours editing footage. The process sounds tedious, but it is something I really enjoy.”

In addition to making videos, Laveran spends a good chunk of time editing photos for the players. While it is not his specialty, he understands the players’ desire for action shots.

“I edit photos on Adobe Lightroom. It’s also pretty fun, but I definitely work with video editing much more. A lot of players on the team like photos, so it’s also something I spend time on,” Laveran said.

Throughout the season, Laveran has had the opportunity to attend both practices and games. He has certainly taken advantage of his time with the team, developing relationships with many athletes.

“Now that I’m at the practices, I can actually talk to and get to know the players on the team…At this point, I am good friends with a lot of players on the team.”

“Usually I would just go to all the games, but now that I’m at the practices, I can actually talk to and get to know the players on the team. I have definitely done a lot more this year than I have in the past.” Laveran said. “At this point, I am good friends with a lot of players on the team.”

A lot of eyes are focused on Laveran for EA Day, as people within the Haverford School community expect a lot out of the Fourth Former. He is prepared for the day, but his process will be a little bit different than in past weeks.

“For EA Day, I’m going to make a big hype video. I will not be making an episode this week because I want to focus on that. I will also be going to all of the other sports and getting footage from them,” Lavaren said.

After the fall season, Laveran will continue his work with winter and spring sports, but he has really enjoyed the time he has spent with the football team.

“I’ve had so much fun and appreciated the opportunity to do what I love,” Laveran said.
