Fords Baseball gets off to strong start

Fords Baseball is off to a hot start in 2026.

The Fords played Westtown in an early-season scrimmage and won by a significant margin.

“Everything was working that game,” Team Manager Colin Toth said. “The bats were hot, and the pitches were flying over all corners of the plate.”

The Fords dominated in a 14-6 win.

Four days later, the team played Friends Central and came out victorious with a score of 7-4. The pitching by Sixth Form captains Gabe Danisi and Jacob Horwitz held Westtown to four runs.

“The offense started slow,” Horwitz said, “but we picked up our momentum quickly and began running up the numbers during our at-bats.”

Fourth Former Zach Lawer was the DelcoNow player of the game, hitting the game-winning RBI double to seal the victory.

On March 11th, a day after the victory against Friends Central, the team played Penncrest, boasting a 10-6 victory. The offense started slowly but began to gain speed quickly after the third inning. The pitching remained consistent and powerful throughout the majority of the game. Penncrest committed several errors, allowing the Fords to capitalize on extra runs.

“We all know what we need to work on and are looking to call it a hiccup. That score doesn’t reflect who we are as a team at all. We know we can’t come out flat against good teams, and that’s exactly what we did.”

Sixth Former and Varsity Captain Caleb Siever

Recently, the Fords played against Garnet Valley and lost 0-6. Garnet Valley has an extremely strong and deep bullpen, and also took advantage of the Fords’ slow bats. The Fords got runners on base but came up short to get the one hit to send them to home plate numerous times.

Sixth Former and Varsity Captain Caleb Siever said, “Everyone’s hard work this offseason really showed in the first few games. The guys all looked strong, were hitting well, and pitching was fluid from the early innings.”

Siever believes the game against Garnett Valley was simply a bump in the road that does not represent the team’s true talents.

“We’re not too worried at all,” Siever said. “We all know what we need to work on and are looking to call it a hiccup. That score doesn’t reflect who we are as a team at all. We know we can’t come out flat against good teams, and that’s exactly what we did. There were certain things we discussed as a team that needed to be executed, and that just didn’t happen.”

Many games remain.

“The team is looking to bounce back this week with back to back to back challenging games against some very talented programs,” Siever said.

The Fords responded on Saturday, March 21, with a commanding 1-0 win over a talented St. Joe’s Prep team after Fifth Former Danny Getz hit a walk-off single.
