Dear Fords,

For those of you who do not know, last weekend, Fords squash had a match against Brunswick, the defending national champions. It was a match I have had circled on my calendar since late summer, when our coach first told us Brunswick was coming to play us at home this year.
They were favored, but our team felt that we could give them a competitive match. However, we also knew that it was going to be a challenge: we would need support.
And on Saturday, we did receive support. There were more people in the squash center than I have ever seen. The student fan section was there in full force alongside teachers, coaches, and faculty.
When I had my match against my opponent, I fed off the support of the crowd, and I know my teammates did the same. This, ultimately, allowed us to upset Brunswick in a thrilling 4-3 finish.
Time and time we have heard it this year: this loyalty and support we have for each other is what separates Haverford from other schools. But on Saturday, I saw this firsthand. It resulted in the best experience I’ve ever had playing squash and one of the best experiences of my life.
As we head into the second half of the year, I want to remind you all to make sure that everyone can have an experience like that this year. During my opening day speech, I told you guys that everyone at Haverford has an “event.” I encourage you to find your event and ask for support.
Because at Haverford, support will always be given.
Sincerely,
Mitav Nayak
