Water Polo looks to conquer Easterns and EA Day

Luke Putter ’24 prepares to shoot in a 13-10 win over Souderton, September 8, 2023 – Communications

As the fall season progresses, amid a legacy of historic success, the water polo team continues to strive for more.

“Going into the water polo season, we were all very confident that we were going to have a really strong time in the Inter Ac,” Sixth Form Captain Lucas Putter said. “Our goal was to go basically undefeated with one loss.”

Unfortunately, in the Beast of the East tournament, they lost two close games to both Brunswick and Wilson.

“We lost to two good teams, one of which was beatable,” Sixth Former Luke Fesnak said. “We are on the cusp of beating good, if not great, teams, but we are not quite at that elite level yet.”

Despite this, the team continues to look towards the next game for a chance at redemption.

“We will have a chance to bounce back against Wilson in a few weeks,” Putter said. “I think this will be a really good game.”

The team continues to practice hard and have strong morale.

“Overall I am really happy with the way the team is doing,” Putter said. “Between our six starters, we have all been playing together for almost seven years now. We have great team chemistry, and it really shows in some of the close games as we can make some great plays.”

Fesnak agrees.

“I think the team is in a good place from a morale standpoint,” Fesnak said. “It is a tight-knit group of guys, and we all play club water polo with each other, so we have really good chemistry.”

The team looks forward to competition with Inter-Ac schools over the upcoming weeks.

“Against other Inter-Ac opponents, our team chemistry skill really elevates us above the rest,” Fesnak said.

They also have high expectations for Easterns, the Eastern Prep Championships.

“For the last [five years] we have made the Easterns Finals,” Putter said. “Our goal for the past five seasons, and this season is to finally bring home that Easterns Championship. It is very attainable with the team we have.”

“EA is not a threat.”

And as always, the team is geared to have a strong performance at EA Day.

“I think [EA Day] will be really surreal,” Putter said, “I got the opportunity to start last time it was at home two years ago, and the atmosphere was just electric, so I am really looking forward to it. It’s going to be a blowout.”

Fesnak also looks forward to EA Day.

“EA has a few good players, but ultimately their team has no depth, as opposed to our team that has two-three lines of good players that know how to play,” Fesnak said. “EA is not a threat.”
