Sixth Former Brody Collins played soccer throughout high school. In his Fourth Form year, after being recruited to kick for the football team by then-Sixth Former Josh Williams, he tried balancing both sports.
“The reason I got into football was an EA Day competition,” Collins said. “I nailed a long field goal and will never forget the moment Josh Williams came up to me and asked why I hadn’t tried football sooner.”
After considering his options, Collins was determined to try both, splitting his free time during the fall between the two.
“What I do for the season is go out to soccer practice from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. Then I quickly run into the locker room, change, and head out to the football field with just enough time to get warmed up and stretch,” Collins said.
“[Playing football] doesn’t affect his role at all.”

This process can be stressful at times, but one of the keys to success throughout it all is communication.
“[Playing football] doesn’t affect his role at all,” Director of Soccer Mr. Keith Cappo said. “I think he has been very organized. We’ve had a lot of communication to minimize any conflict.”

Brody isn’t the first Haverford athlete who has played two sports during the same season, but what stands out about Collins is his leadership across both sports.
“Brody’s a great leader on special teams and the team in general,” Fifth Former Luke Andersen, one of Collins’ football teammates, said. “He is always locked in and has a great attitude.”
Despite the sacrifices, Collins is appreciative of the opportunities that he has been given. Whether it is the chance to play in college or strengthening his relationships with coaches and teammates, playing both sports has been an important part of Collins’ time at Haverford.
“The support that I have received is great,” Collins said. “I am forever grateful for how much each coach has helped me get to where I am.”
After graduating from Haverford, Collins plans to continue his football career at Colby College.
