Fords cross-country opened their Inter-Ac season on September 15th at Belmont Plateau. Haverford defeated Germantown Academy and Springside Chestnut Hill but fell to Malvern Prep, Penn Charter, and Episcopal Academy. Four days later, the Fords placed 11th at the George School Invitational, with their top-four finishers being three Fourth Formers and a Third Former. Fourth Former Munashe Kachidza led the Fords, completing the 5K in 17:19.5.

Captain and Sixth Former Thomas Lentz sees room for improvement and urges his teammates to run together during races.

“I think that one of our roles as captain is to transfer this knowledge we’ve acquired over these past four years into these guys,”

“I think we have a lot of guys who actually have potential to be super strong,” Lentz said. “I would actually like to see a lot more people trying to run with each other during races, because I think we can get way more guys up in those front ranks.”

For Sixth Form captain Raymond Kresge, his role extends beyond numbers.

“I think that one of our roles as captain is to transfer this knowledge we’ve acquired over these past four years into these guys,” Kresge said.

The captains put that approach into practice by modeling the type of focus and discipline they want to see the young runners bring on race day.

“I think a huge part of race days is knowing when we can be a team that goofs around and knowing when we can be a team that needs to lock in, do the stretches, and get ready for their race,” Kresge said.

Kresge emphasizes the importance of maintaining focus in daily training, even as the season wears on.

“We are really trying to be conscious about is being intentional about things.”

“As you go on into the year, we get tired,” Kresge said. “But we kind of need to hold ourselves to a higher standard.”

Intentionality and drive will instill it into the team.

“Another thing we are really trying to be conscious about is being intentional about things,” Kresge said.

Kresge points to Fourth Former Alex Peter as a runner who helps set the tone for the team.

“[Peter has] got a love for these guys on the team, the culture we cultivate, and really just everything about it,” Kresge said. “And he loves getting better. He loves working hard.”
