Mr. Nathaniel Williams joins the performing arts team

Centennial Hall Technical Assistant Mr. Nathaniel Williams joins the performing arts team this fall. 

Raised in Texas, Mr. Williams has participated in productions throughout his life. 

“My earliest memory is auditioning for a show when I was a really, really small child,” Mr. Williams said. 

He continued building on his acting skills throughout high school and college. During his senior year at Rice University, he experimented with the technical side of theater. 

“Getting everything together was something that I really found interesting,” Mr. Williams said. 

“I’ve touched almost every part of theater at one point.”

He had been acting for three years and had not had the chance to take on any leadership positions. When an opportunity came to help direct a major production, he took it. 

“I was expecting it to be harder work, but it was a lot of fun,” Mr. Williams said.

After college, despite not being a theater major, he began designing sets in theaters in both Michigan and Texas. He also worked at a repair facility that fixed lighting equipment. These jobs gave him an inside view of each part of technical theater.

“I’ve touched almost every part of theater at one point,” he said. 

Now, Mr. Williams wants to put all of his focus into one theater instead of sporadic works. He particularly enjoys the student-focused experience that Haverford provides. 

“[Here], the focus is always on providing the best opportunity for the students, a contrast to the community theaters where I worked before,” he said. “I think that having that dedicated focus … is good as a guiding principle.”
