Haverford’s theatrical productions require months of building, testing, and practicing. Each aspect of the production must be critically analyzed so that on opening night, visual and acoustic details are perfect for the audience.

Performing Arts Technical Assistant Ms. Elizabeth Amstutz joins Haverford to help facilitate this process. She will advise students while positioning lighting fixtures and building set pieces.

Ms. Amstutz has participated in the performing arts since high school, when she began doing stage crew as a sophomore. She particularly enjoyed lighting design and continued her passion for the technical aspects of the performing arts at the University of Pittsburgh.

She recalls a production of The 39 Steps as being particularly impactful.

“I loved working on that set because I was really pushing myself and learning what I liked creatively and where my style lands, and it was really fun to add lots of easter eggs to the set,” Ms. Amstutz said.

“[School theater] really makes you feel like part of a team when you’re working on a production.”

Now, Ms. Amstutz enjoys contributing to community productions, but there has always been something particularly appealing about school plays.

“[School theater] really makes you feel like part of a team when you’re working on a production,” she said.
